The Meadowcroft Rockshelter and Historic Village preserved its Miller Schoolhouse by installing a standing-seam metal roof, returning the building to its late-19th century appearance. The #historic structure was built in response to the Pennsylvania Common School law of 1834.

While constructing a pedestrian bridge across the Lehigh River, near the site of Jim Thorpe’s historic Mansion House Pedestrian Bridge, workers uncovered the foundation of the first Wing Dam on the Lehigh Canal. The dam was 24-feet tall & constructed mostly of hemlock.

The National Transit Building, once the site of the largest subsidiary of John D. Rockefeller’s Standard Oil Co., was nearly vacant by the 1990s. Much of Chester’s history is underground, where new foundations were built around walls of colonial basements, creating a labyrinthine of passageways. For years, the walkways served as storage areas. Now, through the CHESTER MADE Exploration Zone, residents are retrieving artifacts to interpret.
