Another Round of PA-SHARE 2.0 Updates!

As we welcome the new year, we also continue to welcome improvements to PA-SHARE as part of the 2.0 Project.

2024 saw several significant improvements to PA-SHARE, including the photo gallery, streamlining of the Quick Search, updates to External User queues, and enhanced functionality to allow for batch uploading and downloading of photos and attachments, to name a few. 2025 will include additional upgrades to PA-SHARE as we move towards finalizing 2.0.

Over the next few months you will see improvements to the login process, updates to archaeological artifact data entry to be more consistent with the Pennsylvania State Museum, and additional User Group privileges similar to the Planner access that was available in our previous system, CRGIS. We will also continue improving database performance and fixing bugs to keep PA-SHARE running as smoothly as possible.

Since our last PA-SHARE blog post in September 2024, a few other specific changes have been implemented as part of the 2.0 work.

Improvements to Subscription and Organization Options

For all users, the subscription page will look different. We’ve added new buttons to make extending or changing your subscription simpler, and it will be easier to see and understand your subscription transactions.

Business accounts can now purchase additional seats beyond the 5 users included in the base price, each at the cost of $55/month or $175/year. This eliminates the need to purchase and link two or more organizations if a Business subscriber wants to have more than 5 users. Please check our website for other details about our Subscription benefits.

New buttons within the Subscription Management page to Extend/Change Subscription or Add Members to Subscription (for Business Subscriptions). Snapshot information also details the most recent subscription type, level, number of members allowed, number of members currently included in the organization, and the expiration date.

The Organization Owner will see additional grids in their Profile for all Subscription transactions and any associated refunds.

Resource Data Enhancements

Associated Resources

You can now associate existing resources as part of the initial resource data entry process. This aligns with how data entry is structured in the PA-SHARE companion app, Surveyor, and should simplify tracking and documenting relationships between resources.

New data entry grid available on all Resource submissions to Add Associated Resource.

Pro and Business users can view these associations on each Resource page under the Associations tab.

This resource, which was recorded as part of our Baseline Survey efforts, notes the association between the church resource and the parsonage resource.

Dynamic Spatial Data

PA-SHARE hosts a number of additional data layers beyond the PA-SHARE data. Resource records now include a section on both the data entry and resource record pages to display some of this data based on the GIS feature associated with the resource record:

When submitting a new resource or updating an existing resource record, the submitter will see new data fields below the map. This data is pulled based on the GIS feature associated with the submission.

This resource record page for Saint Gabriel’s Catholic Parish Complex displays relevant Administrative Jurisdiction data layers on the Summary tab (available for all PA-SHARE users).

This data will dynamically update if the GIS feature is edited and/or when the layer data changes. Additional PA-SHARE upgrades will also implement this same functionality on Project and Report records.

As always, if you have any questions or problems with PA-SHARE, please contact the Help Desk at pashare@pa.gov, and stay tuned for more updates later in the year!

I am glad you are attempting to consolidate and improve the public face of PA Historic Preservation. For that I thank you. However, as a dedicated historic preservation business, I have given up on any of your programs as difficult and unforgiving. (new paragraph) I am a service disabled Iraq War veteran. As an individual, I had decided to restore as many houses as I could in our NR historic district because I realized if I didn’t no one would. I attempted several times to go through the HTC program and was successful in having my plans approved. However, your area representative nit picked two tiny issues in my first application to where my personal $100k plus investment fell in my lap with no assistance from your program. I shared this face-to-face with the NPS director in charge and he assured me I was correct, but as your agency is so bureaucratic, you took the steam out of me to appeal. I have since started several other HTC projects but simply gave up on looking for help on the second approved HTC project due to that one individual. SO I continue to restore on my own dime, and tell others not to bother with the HTC program – something that should have been a huge tool here but is nothing.

Thank you, Mr. Lapic, for your stewardship of historic buildings and for your investment in their continued use. I encourage you to reconsider accessing historic preservation programs and pursuing preservation incentives to further your goals. It is our mission to assist Pennsylvanians to preserve places for future generations. We are here to guide you through our program processes.
