They’re finally here!  As promised in this post from September, here are the dates, times, and locations of the nine – yep, I said nine – Open Houses that the PA SHPO and Preservation PA are having in October and November for the next statewide historic preservation plan.  You can also check out our recent press release announcing these events.

Here’s what you need to know:

The first Open House is scheduled for Boalsburg on Monday, October 17th and the last for Johnstown on Wednesday, November 30th.  Read on for the complete list of dates and locations.

The Open Houses will be open between the hours of 3:30 and 7:30 for the public to drop by and learn more about historic preservation and the statewide plan.  The public is also invited to stay for a one-hour discussion at 4:30 or 6:30 led by the PA SHPO’s Director Andrea MacDonald or Preservation Pennsylvania’s Executive Director Mindy Crawford.  Please note! The Lancaster area Open House will be open between the hours of 4:00 and 8:00 with the one-hour discussions at 4:30 and 6:30.

The Open Houses are FREE and open to anyone interested in attending.   If you think you’d like to join us for a one-hour discussion at one or more of the Open Houses, please register here.  Registration is not required (we’ll only use it for planning purposes) but we have a great incentive!  The first 25 people to register for each Open House will receive a free copy of Pennsylvania Architecture: The Historic American Buildings Survey, 1933-1990.

Can’t make it to an Open House?

In a perfect world, we’d be able to travel across Pennsylvania and visit every township, borough, city, county, region… you get my point.  If you’re not able to come say hello, learn about the statewide plan, and talk with us at an Open House, please take a few minutes to share your thoughts with us through the online public survey (it’ll close soon!), by following us on Facebook and Twitter, and even emailing us.  Also make sure to read our blog each week and sign up for our newsletters to stay up-to-date with Community Connections announcements and additional opportunities to participate.

The planning process is far from over and we can’t wait to get started with the next phase.  Stay tuned!
