After more than two years of hard work and upgrades, PA-SHARE 2.0 is already shining bright! As we wrap things up this winter, we’ve managed to add a few extra enhancements to really make Surveyor glow.

I’ll start by offering an apology to anyone who now has this holiday classic from the Sound of Music running on a loop in their head. I was looking for a new twist on our traditional end-of-year blog highlights and the “My Favorite Things” song kept popping up in my mind.
You might remember hearing about the PA SHPO’s “Celebrate Your Barn” survey from our blog post back in June, from attending the Historic Barn and Farm Foundation’s 2025 Annual Meeting, from watching the news reporting on WGAL, from reading the newsletters from some of our state legislators, or by chatting with your neighbors – or another way. We’d love to know how you heard about our effort!
From the rolling hills of Lancaster County to the quiet valleys of the Alleghenies, Pennsylvania’s barns are as diverse and storied as the landscapes they are part of. Now, we’d love to help tell the story behind your barn.
There are many ways in which we contribute to our communities, and if you are reading this blog, I have a hunch that you are interested in recognizing, protecting, and celebrating historic places in your community. If I guessed correctly, please read on to learn about one easy task you can do the week of April 20-26, which happens to be National Volunteer Week, to identify historic places in your area.
(… Or is it?)
As 2024 winds down and all the social media platforms and streaming services summarize and wrap-up the year, the Pennsylvania Above Ground Survey (PAGS) program has the opportunity publish its BASELINE WRAPPED for 2020-2024.
Baseline Wrapped is going to summarize the changes in technology, highlight certain municipalities, provide some numbers, and even hint at what’s to come next..!
Spring is around the corner, and long-requested updates to Surveyor Manager functionality are the among the first new blooms of the season!
The Pennsylvania Baseline Survey Team is thrilled to share the final year of findings from the Pennsylvania Baseline Survey. From June 2022 to March 2024, Year 3 of the Baseline Survey took place in 20 counties. To date, over 6,854 new resources have been recorded in 503 municipalities thanks to the efforts of our Baseline Survey Teams!
While I am still enjoying the holiday high (and feeling blissfully stuffed), I am also looking forward to the many initiatives the PA SHPO has in the works for 2024.
It’s been a minute since I did a “year in review” post for the blog, so I thought I’d treat our readers to PA SHPO’s version of the ubiquitous end-of-year list.
In the spirit ICYMI, here is a list of the best posts from 2023 that you want to be sure to read. If I had to sum up the blog’s year in one phrase, I think it’s “a year of education, entertainment, and everything in between.”
