The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) has recently posted an Expression of Interest (EOI) for a historic reuse opportunity at the former Butler VA Hospital in Butler Township, Butler County.

Pennsylvania has 49 Certified Local Governments, one of which is Lower Makefield Township in Bucks County. The Certified Local Government (CLG) program is a partnership between municipal governments, the Pennsylvania State Historic Preservation Office (PA SHPO), and the National Park Service (NPS) that promotes and supports effective historic preservation programs and policies in Pennsylvania municipalities.
This is part of a biannual blog series highlighting the agreement documents executed by PA SHPO in accordance with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act and its implementing regulations.

This edition of Just Listed! includes a variety of Pennsylvania places from across the Commonwealth listed in the National Register of Historic Places in the first half of 2025. These twenty-two properties include places associated with transportation, architecture, industry, commerce, healthcare, neighborhoods, and religion.
During the fall of 2024, the Historic Property Inspection Program (HPIP) had the pleasure of visiting several historic sites in Allegheny and Washington Counties in the western part of the state:
- The David Bradford House, Washington, Washington County;
- Carrie Furnaces, Swissvale, Allegheny County; and
- The Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh, Allegheny County.
These visits allowed us an opportunity to test the new Historic Property Inspection Building Condition and Assessment Form.
The Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission is pleased to announce the selected projects for the 2024-2025 Keystone Grant program. The grant program again saw a 6% increase in the number of applications over last year with requests over $6,510,000. It is gratifying to know that the program serves our partners well and can react to serve their needs. The grant program is just one of the PA-SHPO’s tool to support both planning initiatives and capital projects at historic sites throughout Pennsylvania.
This week’s 2024 Community Initiative Award winner spotlight is on the restoration of the community clock in the Borough of Huntingdon, Huntingdon County.
