Community Connections: Summer 2017 Update
I was looking back through our posts from the last few months and thought “Yikes! Its been six months since my last update on the statewide preservation plan!” So read on for the latest installment of Community Connections: Planning for Preservation in Pennsylvania. Continue reading
Community Connections: Survey Says!
Did anyone else hear Richard Dawson’s voice yell this out when they read the title of our post today? Perhaps I’m dating myself by knowing who first hosted Family Feud. We didn’t host our own preservation version of one of America’s favorite game shows (but that’s an idea!) but we did host a survey and the results are in!
This time of year is all about traditions, so I’m keeping one of ours here at the PA Historic Preservation blog: the Year in Review. Its a good time to reflect on all the great preservation in Pennsylvania in 2016. There is so much to choose from that it was hard to come up with my top 5! Once you read through my list, leave a comment and tell me what is on your Top 5 list.
Don’t Just Look Forward or Backward: Look Around for Preservation Partners
In 2016, the preservation community has been looking back over the past 50 years to reflect upon the legacy of the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966. The legislation laid the groundwork for the tools and strategies of preservation. For Pennsylvania, 2016 also marks the beginning of a multi-year planning process to look forward over the next five years (and beyond) through the development of a new Statewide Historic Preservation Plan. I had the chance to look around at the recent American Planning Association – Pennsylvania Chapter (APA-PA for short) conference and it got me thinking about how preservation is connecting to the bigger planning world.
Community Connections: Connect with us at an Open House!
They’re finally here! As promised in this post from September, here are the dates, times, and locations of the nine – yep, I said nine – Open Houses that the PA SHPO and Preservation PA are having in October and November for the next statewide historic preservation plan. You can also check out our recent press release announcing these events. Continue reading
Community Connections: What’s New?
Its been a few months now since we introduced you to the Community Connections: Planning for Preservation in Pennsylvania campaign and I thought it was a good time for an update. We’ve been making great progress over the summer and we have some exciting things coming up this fall.
ICYMI: Community Connections in Lewisburg, PA at the 2016 Statewide Conference on Heritage
From June 6-8, 250 of Pennsylvania’s spiffiest preservationists made Lewisburg, PA the most happening scene in the Commonwealth during the 2016 Statewide Conference on Heritage, and – by all accounts – every beach bunny, bookbuster, cat, chick, cool head, dove, dude, flap jaw, flower child, fox, hodad, hot dog, hunk, mop-top, mover, skirt, and teenie bopper in attendance had a totally way out blast! As you whiz kids out there may know, 2016 is the year that the preservation community is celebrating the fiftieth anniversary of the utterly rad National Historic Preservation Act of 1966, and part of that wicked celebration involves recognizing, praising, and engaging with Pennsylvania’s diverse and awesome communities that exist throughout the state. Continue reading
We’re back to our regular SHPO Shout-Out post this month, and I get to tell you about some great local preservation activities, two national award winners, and a cool new park in Jefferson County. Two quick things before I launch into my list of happy news: have you taken our online survey for the next statewide historic preservation plan yet? Or have you registered for the upcoming Statewide Conference on Heritage? There is still time to do both! Continue reading
