There is an immediate opening for the following position with the PA Historical & Museum Commission (PHMC)
THE POSITION:
This limited-term position coordinates and communicates information about the Bureau for Historic Preservation’s programs; develops implements and evaluates the bureau’s community outreach programs; and helps to coordinate educational activities with state agency partners, local governments, non-profit organizations, and special interest groups. Work includes implementing PHMC and bureau communication’s policies which have bureau impact and providing advice and recommendations to the bureau. Please Note: This is a limited-term position, expected to last through June 30, 2019.
DESCRIPTION OF WORK:
The incumbent:
Coordinates and manages the bureau’s educational programs, communications (such as monthly newsletter), social media networks, website development, public information, and community outreach programs and ensures continuity in the bureau’s education and training programs.
Develops online training and webinar courses in partnership with BHP program staff for CWOPA LMS training, college/university partners, and other constituents.
Prepares bureau promotional literature for distribution at conferences and other public venues.
Coordinates update of bureau exhibits.
Meets with local, state, and federal officials; special interest groups; advisory committees; and the public to inform and advance the bureau’s vision and mission and directs and manages public outreach and participation efforts.
Advances and coordinates the implementation of the Commonwealth’s historic preservation plan.
Promotes state agency and municipal government responsibility to implement the statewide Historic Preservation Plan.
Reviews and analyzes reports and other information to determine program trends, direction, and potential effectiveness.
Represents the bureau in coordinating communication and training programs with federal officials, other Commonwealth agencies, special interest groups, and the public.
Develops and delivers presentations and workshops for special interest groups, media, and the public on the bureau’s mission and programs.
Provides education and outreach programs regarding the benefits of historic preservation and its relationship to sustainability and community vitality.
Collaborates with partners and advocates to improve the effectiveness of preservation advocacy messages.
Develops and implements a plan to instill a preservation ethic in Pennsylvania’s youth and train a workforce supportive of historic preservation.
Supports internal and external training and educational opportunities, such as notifying elected officials of historic preservation projects within their districts.
Performs other related duties at the direction of the bureau director.
Incumbent is responsible to be familiar with PHMC general safety rules and safety rules specific to this position; for working in a safe manner and following all PHMC safety rules; to immediately report all workplace injuries or incidents to their supervisor; and to immediately correct any safety hazards in the work area or report same to supervisor.

Required Experience:
Two or more years of experience working on an architectural survey, an architectural restoration and preservation project or program, and a bachelor’s degree in architectural history, American history, art history, or course work in Pennsylvania history. OR Any equivalent combination of experience and training.
