Just Listed is a semi-annual feature of Pennsylvania’s Cultural Resources that were recently listed in the National Register of Historic Places.
Three very different Pennsylvania resources were recently listed in the National Register of Historic Places. They hold significance for very different reasons, too, ranging from design and architectural merit, to labor history in the textile industry, to the development of Philadelphia’s court system.
The odometer read 19 when we rolled out of the state garage. We had an ambitious three-day schedule planned to northwestern Pennsylvania. The Bureau’s new director, Serena Bellew, had never been to the ‘Erie triangle’ or the northwest corner of the Commonwealth and she was in for a treat… or two, or three – because great local eateries were also on the itinerary. Our mantra for the trip was “positive preservation.” At each stop we planned to meet with some of our partners who have been thoughtfully and purposefully working toward accomplishing various preservation goals.
There is an immediate opening with the PA Historical & Museum Commission (PHMC) for a Historic Preservation Specialist.
THE POSITION:
This is a limited-term position (lasting less than 1 year) in the Division of Preservation Services. The office location is at Graeme Park in Horsham, Pennsylvania. The division is responsible for the identification, evaluation, and preservation of historic properties through a variety of state and federal programs. The position requires an understanding and critical analysis of cultural resources, methods of historical research, historic resource survey standards, and National Register guidelines, as well as public engagement and education. The position further requires working with a variety of partners including state and local governments, non-profit organizations, and the interested public in order to carry out the responsibilities outlined below.

FORUM is the title for this year’s Statewide Conference on Heritage/Byways to the Past, which has teamed up with the National Alliance of Preservation Commission’s biennial training program for a jam-packed week of workshops, tours, and sessions.
